There were smiles all around at Weary Dunlop Village on August 13 as residents Brian Cox, 93, and Irene Williams exchanged vows surrounded by family, friends, fellow residents and team members.
The couple celebrated their special day in the village gardens, with perfect winter weather providing a beautiful backdrop for the occasion. Loved ones travelled from near and far to join the celebrations, while residents and staff embraced the opportunity to be part of the milestone moment.
For Irene, there was one clear highlight.
"Getting married was my favourite part of the day," she said.
"It was wonderful to celebrate with family, friends and everyone at Weary Dunlop."
Village Manager Meagan Spicer said the wedding reflected the strong sense of connection that makes village life so special.
"One of the things I love most about Weary Dunlop is the way people genuinely care about one another," she said.
"The support shown to Brian and Irene on their wedding day reflected exactly what our community is all about."
From preparing the ceremony space to helping coordinate the celebrations, the Weary Dunlop team worked behind the scenes to ensure every detail was taken care of.
Brian said he was deeply grateful for the support shown by Meagan and the wider village team.
"Meagan was fantastic," he said.
"From the moment we told her we were getting married, she got behind us and helped make the day so special. The way she and the team embraced our wedding and brought everything together meant so much to Irene and me."
Among all the celebrations, one moment stands out in Brian's memory.
"When Irene walked in and stood beside me, she had a smile from ear to ear," he said.
The festivities continued with food, cake and plenty of opportunities for guests to share stories and celebrate together. Following the wedding, the newlyweds enjoyed a short getaway to Gippsland before returning home to Weary Dunlop.
Meagan said the occasion was a wonderful reminder that meaningful moments can happen at any stage of life.
"As a village community, we have the privilege of sharing many important moments in residents' lives," she said.
"Being part of Brian and Irene's wedding is something our team will remember for a long time."
