URGENT UPDATE: COVID-19 MEASURES IN PLACE March 23, 2020

The Victorian Government has imposed a shutdown of all non-essential businesses, which came into effect at 12pm today. It has also brought the school holidays forward three days so they will begin from tomorrow.

We support this. We think it will help protect our residents, their families and our staff from the spread of COVID-19.

The Government has announced extraordinary measures, and as a community we need to get together and do everything we can to adhere to them.

As a result, there will be no further visits to our residents while we are complying with these emergency measures.

We understand the enormity of this – we do not take it lightly, but it is the right thing to do, and is what our Government is asking us for the benefit of all.

CARE AND SERVICED APARTMENT RESIDENTS

As previously communicated, visits to our care and serviced apartment residents have been stopped.

The only exceptions will be for the families of residents in palliative care or end-of-life care.

These visitors will be required to wear face masks and follow careful protocols for hygiene wellness and social distancing.

We understand this may cause a degree of distress for residents and families.

We are finding other ways of keeping in touch, including by phone and by Skype.

INDEPENDENT RESIDENTS

Independent residents need to stay at home.

Families can drop essential items such as groceries and medical supplies to security at our gates, and we will arrange for it to be delivered.

Please be reassured that our village team is there to help residents with anything they need.

We have put extra resources in to ensure we can provide support for everyone who needs it.

The best thing your family members can do is to ring or get in contact by email or video call.

PLEASE BE PATIENT

We are living in unprecedented times and we are all trying our best to adapt to a rapidly changing situation.

This means disruption for our team, but we have an amazing bunch of people who are absolutely committed to caring.

You will have noticed we have extra security procedures at the gates. You will understand that they are there to ensure that visits to our village residents now stops.

Please be patient and bear with us as we roll out new ways of doing things and of keeping connected and safe.

The team is working hard on different activities and we will come back to you on our plans in the next few days.

WAYS TO KEEP IN TOUCH

We want to ease the burden of non-urgent inquiries on your village team and we have established a trans-Tasman team to help.

If your query is urgent contact your village directly.

For not so urgent inquiries please contact us on 1800 288 299 or by emailing residentsupport@rymanhealthcare.com

PLEASE RING YOUR LOVED ONES

We will do everything we can to help you keep in touch during this period. The best way to connect is by phone, and we are finding other ways to keep people in touch including video calls.

Please don’t be afraid to call your loved one to see how they are doing.

Once again, please remember that we are here to help, so do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks again to everyone for your help, support and feedback as we work through this.
