I wanted to let you know that last week the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) conducted an audit of Nellie Melba to review the measures we’ve taken to protect the village from COVID-19, and the plans we have in place in the event of an outbreak.
I’m pleased to report we passed that audit with flying colours.
The auditors examined every aspect of our COVID-19 preparedness and planning, including screening processes for staff and visitors, infection control training, environmental cleaning, our plans for a surge workforce, our stocks of PPE, and the current wellbeing of our residents and staff.
They looked particularly closely at the emergency response plan we will activate if we have a confirmed case of the virus at Nellie Melba.
The auditors said they were very impressed with how detailed and thorough our processes are, and expressed surprise at the unusually high level of resourcing Ryman has committed to keep residents and staff safe.
They said no changes or additional measures were required.
While we were pleased with the feedback we received, there is absolutely no room for complacency.
We are acutely aware that the best systems, processes and planning in the world do not eliminate all risk of this highly infectious virus getting into the village.
We also know that the success we’ve had so far in making Nellie Melba a safe haven has hinged on individuals doing the right thing.
That includes staff members letting us know of any risk factors outside of work, residents staying home as much as possible, family members supporting the restrictions we have in place, and everyone self-isolating and getting tested if they have symptoms.
It’s a team effort, so I want to thank you for the part you are playing by making good choices to keep yourself and the Nellie Melba community safe.
