Resident and family update - Thursday 27 May 2021

Dear residents and family members.

As I’m sure you’re already aware, Victoria will enter a seven-day lock down from 11.59pm today to help contain an outbreak of COVID-19 that has spread across the state.

It’s a shame this step had to be taken but we’ve been in this situation before, we know how to handle it, and we’ll be doing everything possible to keep all our residents safe, comfortable and entertained until the lock down lifts.

From 11.59pm, all Victorians will only be allowed to leave their homes for five reasons:

• To get food and essential supplies
• For work authorised as essential
• For care and caregiving
• To exercise for up to two hours with one other person
• To get vaccinated for COVID-19

Masks must be carried at all times and must be worn indoors and outdoors, except in your home. Travel is limited to within 5km from your home.

Earlier this week we closed our care centres to visitors as a precaution.

We will now lock down all parts of our retirement villages in line with the restrictions the Government has imposed.

Security checkpoints will be placed at the main entrances at our Weary Dunlop and Nellie Melba villages, so we can manage deliveries safely and screen people authorised to enter the village.

As supermarkets have been common sources of infection during previous outbreaks, we encourage you to order your groceries online if you’re able to.

Any groceries ordered online or dropped off by loved ones can be left at the security checkpoints at Weary Dunlop and Nellie Melba and we’ll deliver them to residents.

At Charles Brownlow and Ocean Grove, groceries can be left outside the front door of a resident’s villa for contactless delivery.

At John Flynn, please call ahead to the village’s reception on 03 8849 8700 and a staff member will collect the delivery from you when you arrive.

To help keep residents comfortable and entertained, we’ll be ramping up many of the same services, such as Happy Hour in a bag, you enjoyed during last year’s lock downs.

Many residents are now expert users of video calling services like Zoom to keep in touch with loved ones, but if you need any support with this please contact village reception.

We’ll get through this lockdown the same way we’ve gotten through the previous ones: with care for those in our village community, respect for the guidelines to keep everyone safe, and as much good humour as possible.

The COVID strain that is sweeping Victoria is 50 per cent more contagious than previous variants, so we encourage you to limit outings and to get vaccinated for your safety.

If there’s anything you need at any time, our village teams are on hand to help.

Stay safe,

Paul Sutton
Victorian Operations Manager
