Passing parade

Written by Ryman Healthcare | Apr 14, 2020 8:49:01 AM

A multitude of walkers
Come passing by our door.
From first thing in the morning
Till after half past four.
Some are quite determined
And keep the tempo up;
Some drag their husbands with them,
One even brings her pup.

Along comes Al with staff in hand,
With Margaret by his side;
Then comes Kay a-bustling
And Julie with slightly shorter stride.
A little slower come Ron and Bev,
Each with a cheeky smile;
And bearing down comes Lyn and Posh,
With Bruce in Indian file.

Pam is one who scurries along
But waits for her neighbour on her crutches,
While Bob and Marie step out cheerfully
And Maggie passes like a duchess.
Bruce and Joan go striding by
Determination on their faces;
Ollie, Sonia, Dawn and Sandra
Are all put through their paces.

But others seem to saunter
And walk with measured tread;
The odd one looks reluctant –
They’d rather be in bed!
For one or two the exercise
Really doesn’t matter:
As long as all along the way
They can stop and have a natter.

Though the fitness should come first,
To keep the body trim,
To socialise has benefits
As important as the gym.
Reaching out, but staying clear,
Everyone stays in their bubble;
If we neglect this simple rule
There surely will be trouble.

We wave, we chat, we hum a tune,
As folks go past our door,
And as a fresh day dawns anew
There will be many more!
