Aged-care when you need it

Our retirement villages offer a range of care options - not as an add-on, but woven into the fabric of our villages.

Bert Newton Village will offer a comprehensive range of aged-care options including residential aged care (low care and high care) and specialist dementia care. Like all aspects of our villages, we constantly look for ways to improve both the aged care we provide and the innovation behind it. Aged care is customised using our myRyman Care app and residents love the food in our seasonal Delicious menu, which is prepared fresh on site by village chefs.

OUR NAMESAKE

Bert Newton

Each Ryman village is named in honour of a Kiwi or Aussie trailblazer: Anthony Wilding, Lady Diana Isaac, Evelyn Page. They pushed further and set the bar high for others to aspire to. In creating communities that challenge the expectations of ageing, Ryman villages are also setting the bar high. They’re demonstrating that a retirement lifestyle brimming with new experiences, connections and fulfilment is something we should aspire to. Our Aussie and Kiwi namesakes represent the measure of inspiration, while Ryman villages represent the measure of retirement living.

Bert Newton (1938-2021)

Melbourne born and bred Bert Newton was one of Australia’s most enduring and loved show biz icons.

A pioneer of television and radio, Bert first captured the imaginations of Australians while working in radio broadcasting, primarily as an announcer, before becoming a star of television during its inception in 1957.

Bert’s broad grin, wide face (which would later earn him the nickname ‘Moonface’), and nimble wit were an instant hit and by 1959 he traded his role as compere of The Late Show for regular appearances on Graham Kennedy’s hit show In Melbourne Tonight. The comedy pair’s chemistry was instant, and the men would go on to become Australia’s most loved television duo.

For the next four decades Bert’s infectious humour and beaming smile was rarely absent from household screens throughout the country, as he hosted a slew of Australia’s most popular variety and late-night programs.

Bert’s legacy will always be synonymous with Australia’s night of nights, the Logies, which he hosted a record 19 times.

While he was an adored host of the awards, Bert himself was a quadruple Gold Logie winner and Logie Hall of Fame inductee.

In 1979 Bert was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), and in 2006, a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

Bert is survived by his wife, Patti, his children, Matthew and Lauren, and six grandchildren.
