'We are going to be really happy here'

Dennis and Libby are relishing the opportunity to relax and reflect on a decision well made at their new apartment at Ryman Healthcare’s John Flynn Retirement Village.

“I know we are going to be really happy here, and I would encourage others looking at retirement living options to definitely consider John Flynn,” Libby says.

After moving into a stunning two-bedroom apartment on the village’s third floor in mid-January the couple have wasted no time in making the most of what the village has to offer.

"We are from Vermont South and so we have family in the area, it’s close to the shops and the tram line is right outside,” Dennis says.

There are also plenty of activities to enjoy within the village including weekly Happy Hour events, cheese and wine gatherings and community safety lessons including first aid and fire safety.

It was factors including the village’s proximity to tram and bus lines, aged care on-site and “a very good” financial model which made John Flynn the right fit, Dennis says.

“The financial model is great, it was examined not only by me, but someone else who has moved here who is very savvy with financial matters and we both feel it’s very good,” he said.

“Also, with aged care on-site, there is great peace of mind that comes from knowing if one of us gets sick we won’t have to move somewhere else; we will always be able to be close to each other.”

After being shown plans for their apartment and learning of Ryman’s terms and conditions Dennis and Libby signed on the dotted line within an hour of meeting with a Ryman sales advisor.

    They have not looked back.

“We had been in our house for more than forty years, the house was getting old, we had a swimming pool which was getting hard to maintain and everything was starting to age,” Dennis says.

“Here we’ve got a nice modern kitchen, beautiful bathroom, walk in robe, everything’s modern plus you’ve got all of the extras here like ongoing support and amenities like the bowling green and café.”

While moving was a “big thing” it was made all the easier thanks to Ryman’s staff, Libby says.

“Moving is such a big thing but the staff here are amazing, the maintenance team helped to hang all of our pictures and nothing is ever a problem which has really helped make us feel at home.”

Their new chapter in life has also got the tick of approval from their grandchildren who have stayed at the village and are looking forward to making the most of the village swimming pool, Libby says.

The couple encourage people thinking about retirement living to put themselves first.

“I think people should remember they are entitled to use their money as best they can, and many people can move here and still have a bit of change leftover from selling an older house,” Dennis says.

“Your family will benefit because you are being looked after here; looking after yourself is in the interest of your whole family.”

Dennis and Libby are now looking forward to the completion of construction of the village and its amenities.

Upon completion the village at 4 Foundation Boulevard, Burwood East, will include apartments, serviced apartments and aged care comprising low care, high care and specialist dementia care. It will also include a bowling green, indoor pool, gym, cinema, billiards table, café and bar, library and beauty salon.
