Everything's just perfect in Weary Dunlop kitchen

Striving for perfection is one thing - attaining it is quite another.

But that’s exactly what the food service team at Weary Dunlop retirement village has achieved after receiving an unbelievable 102/102 score in the Monash City Council’s Golden Plate Awards.

It means head chef Visva Lawrence and his team have received the council’s Golden Plate 5 Star Award, presented to hospitality businesses achieving a score of 93 per cent or higher, three years in a row.

The awards recognise businesses throughout the city of Monash that are providing a high standard of food safety.

Food proprietors are awarded up to five stars based on surprise assessments carried out by the council's environmental health officers.

Visva and his staff were over the moon at the result.

“It was exciting news, for the team we’re happy we’re doing everything right,” he said.

“The team were all thrilled, they all cheered.”

While many other businesses achieved a five-star rating, Visva wasn’t aware of any that attained a perfect score.

He put the result down to having excellent systems and processes embedded in kitchen, and a professional and dedicated team.

“Everything [the inspector] had in her head to ask me was all documented and ready to go.”

Visva said he and his team will focus on keeping their standards high to ensure they receive another five-star rating next year.

Topping perfection, though, is just not possible.
