Janet Binks wasn’t even looking to move into a retirement village when she discovered one that ticked all the right boxes.

“I was reading the paper and I saw an advert for a retirement village in Aberfeldie and I thought ‘I know Aberfeldie well, but I don’t know of any retirement village there’ I wasn’t looking to move, but I came home and googled it,” she said.

“And I thought ‘what a wonderful place it’s going to be’.”

Having lived in Keilor East for the past 17 years, and the Moonee Valley area for 40 years, Ryman Healthcare’s Aberfeldie village at 2 Vida St, will bring Janet even closer to everything important in her life.

“It wasn’t a hard decision to join the village because I have a daughter in Aberfeldie and her children go to a school in Aberfeldie which is close to the village, and I’ve got a number of friends in the area so Essendon, Aberfeldie, East Keilor, the whole area is home,” Janet said.

A visit to Ryman’s Nellie Melba Retirement Village in Wheelers Hill was further proof Ryman was the right fit, she said.

“I was impressed by everything I saw there; the apartments were beautiful and it just confirmed that the Aberfeldie village was definitely the place to go.”

Not one to skip on research, Janet visited other retirement villages in Melbourne’s inner north-west.

“Because I already had Ryman’s terms and conditions when I went to other villages, I was able to compare them with what they were offering," she said.

“Their terms and conditions were terrible compared to Ryman and I thought ‘no, it has to be Ryman, or I’d stay where I was’, I wasn’t going to move to any of the other villages in that area."

Now Janet is looking forward to moving into a stunning two-bedroom apartment at the Aberfeldie village.

“Meeting new people, having coffee and sitting in the gardens, the gym and craft room are all things I am looking forward to doing.

“Now I just want to move in and start relaxing.”

Upon completion the Aberfeldie village will include 73 aged care beds, 27 serviced apartments and 64 apartments, as well as a cinema, bowling green, indoor pool, gym, library, café and bar.
