Ryman Healthcare is a care company – the care of older people is at the heart of everything we do.
Ryman Healthcare was founded in 1984 by Kevin Hickman and John Ryder.
Kevin had visited a resthome, and did not like what he saw. There were shared bathrooms and little in the way of privacy or dignity for residents. He couldn’t bear the thought of his mum living in one.
He thought there had to be a better way of looking after people, and that residents at least deserved their own rooms and ensuites. The care offered should be "good enough for mum".
More than 30 years later, Ryman Healthcare has grown to become the largest retirement village operator in New Zealand and a significant operator in Victoria.
The company offers a range of retirement living options, from independent living apartments and townhouses through to serviced apartments, as well as resthome, hospital and dementia-level care.
Ryman villages include resort facilities such as indoor swimming pools, movie theatres, bowling greens and hair and beauty salons.
The size of the villages and the facilities offered may have changed but Ryman’s core aim remains the same.
Care is at the heart of what we do. And it must be good enough for mum. Or dad.
