Busloads of Ryman Healthcare residents and friends of the retirement living and aged care providers villages proved their devotion to Australian icon Dame Olivia Newton-John (AC DBE) has not waned since her passing.

In March residents from Ryman’s Charles Brownlow and Deborah Cheetham villages attended the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s (MSO) ‘Hopelessly Devoted: A Celebration of Olivia Newtown-John’ concerts presented by Ryman Healthcare at Hamer Hall.

Attendees were treated to rousing renditions of Newton-John’s greatest hits including from her record-breaking albums ‘Physical’, ‘Xanadu’ and ‘You’re the One That I want’ under the leadership of conductor Jessica Gethin.

Charles Brownlow Retirement Village resident Marie Benney said she was still buzzing from the concert.

“Olivia herself was really a one-off, but it was a truly wonderful day,” she said.

“My family and I go to at least one show a year, but this was the first one I had been to with Ryman.

“I think Ryman’s association with the MSO is a great one because a good percentage of people at villages will really enjoy going to such shows.”

While she was a “country girl” at heart, she could always be coaxed to the city for a show.

“I’m not really into cities, I’m a country girl, but when it’s a live show and there is a Ryman bus it really does make for a great day out,” she said.

The special concerts were hosted by Newton-John’s niece and Goodwill Ambassador of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Centre, Tottie Goldsmith (OAM), with a donation from the shows made to the wellness centre.

Ryman Healthcare is a proud Premier Partner of the MSO, enabling residents and people considering a move to a village, exclusive access to performances at villages and the Arts Centre.
