When Lola and Graham Fisher move into Ryman Healthcare’s new Ocean Grove retirement village, they will not only be able to stay within the community they love, but also the same street.

Having moved to Ocean Grove twenty years ago, the Fishers quickly made a mark in the community with Graham the former president of the Ocean Grove RSL and Lola volunteering as an RSL welfare officer.

Lola says Ryman’s village at 181-195 Shell Rd, just 500m from their current home, is “exactly what we wanted”.

“We will still be able to continue doing all the community things we normally do and importantly for us, we can move in and we won’t have to move out again if we need more help,” she says.

“What Ryman offers, with the different levels of care, is exactly what we wanted.”

With two children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, the Fishers say the move to Ryman’s Ocean Grove village will take pressure off their family.

“As a welfare officer I dealt with aged care providers for 12 years and what I found was often a partner would die and there would be a lot left for others to sort out,” Lola says.

“By making the move we have taken control of our future while we still can, and the stress and responsibility has been taken off our family.”

Having led a busy career as a member of the Australian Defence Force for more than 20 years, Graham says the village will ensure he and Lola can continue to have an enjoyable, stress-free retirement.

The stunning resort-style village will include an all-weather bowling green, heated indoor swimming pool, café, hair and beauty salon and movie theatre.

“I think it gives you a quality of life in retirement because you’re not worrying about anything,” Graham says.

“Everything is there, it is secure, your kids are happy, everybody is happy.”

And while the Fisher’s beautiful new Ryman villa is only the second property they have ever bought, they say the process was made enjoyable thanks to Ocean Grove sales advisor Janine Wilde.

“She is very knowledgeable, friendly and professional,” Graham says.

“I would not hesitate in recommending the whole experience.”

Upon completion the Ocean Grove village will include villas, serviced apartments and residential aged care including low care, high care and specialist dementia care.
